In a strong push toward environmental sustainability and local economic empowerment, over 100 community trainees from various barangays participated in a Waste Diversion Workshop on July 16, 2026.

The essential capacity-building initiative aimed to equip participants with practical strategies, skills, and knowledge to significantly reduce landfill waste through systematic segregation, recycling, reuse, and resource recovery.

Highlighting the event’s regional significance, Environmental Monitoring Officer (EnMO) Krydelle Ines from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) attended the activity to support the municipality’s solid waste management efforts.

To turn environmental goals into tangible livelihood skills, local trainers led hands-on sessions teaching creative upcycling techniques, including:

• Plastic Bottle Weaving: Crafting durable bags and baskets from discarded plastic bottles.
• Eco-Pottery: Creating flower pots and planters using a mixture of cement and shredded cellophanes.
• Textile Upcycling: Fashioning functional doormats and potholders from scrap cloth and rags.
• Eco-Crafts: Making stylish pouches out of plastic cellophanes and decorative plants from repurposed plastic bottles.

“Our goal is simple yet impactful: reduce municipal waste while creating real economic opportunities for our community members,” the Local Government Unit (LGU) shared.
